Voices in the Attic

This project is the result of a discussions at meetings of the Traditional Song Forum. Many of the members of the forum were aware of collections of recordings of traditional music and song or even had recordings themselves. In the early days of tape recording, many people owned Grundig or Phillips tape machines (and later cassette machines) and used them to record a wide variety of material including music, off air radio recordings, family occasions, concerts, reminiscences, drama, and much more. Many of these tapes are still stored in boxes in people's attics or spare rooms and many are unplayable because the recording machines are no longer working.

The Voices in the Attic project seeks to identify, catalogue and transfer significant recordings so that they can provide a resource for researchers and an interesting audio window on the past.
